
May 26 - June 24 marks the fourth month of the Tibetan lunar
calendar - Saga Dawa. Saga Dawa is an
important month for Tibetan Buddhists because the Buddha's Birth,
Enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana all occurred during this month. Throughout Saga Dawa, it is said that the
merit of all actions (virtuous and unvirtuous) are multiplied by 100,000 times. And 100 million times on Saga Dawa Düchen
[June 9]!
It is beneficial to abstain
from eating meat and avoid killing or harming any creature during this time. Also, it is an excellent time to do
additional practice, make offerings, release animals, and most particularly,
guard your body, speech and mind against all negative actions.
